Croatia City Breaks

Central Croatia is defined by the rivers Sava, Drava and Mura. It is a continental region characterized by valleys transpersed with hills on which mediaeval forts were built, it is also a region of villages surrounded by vineyards and castles that once belonged to aristocracy, surrounded by forests. Here are also big cities like Zagreb. Zagreb is not only a centre of the region, but it is also the capital of Croatia and a great city break destination. It lies at the foot of the Medvednica mountain and on the banks of the river Sava. Around Zagreb, there are many small towns and beautiful places great for day trips, as Samobor. Samobor is located in a magnificent environment and has rich gastronomic offer. Velika Gorica is situated by the Zagreb airport and east of Velika Gorica is the Turopolje region. This part of Croatia is also interesting for its traditional peasant houses made of wood.

The natural features of Istria, the largest peninsula on the Adriatic coast are numerous, Učka Mountain, Brijuni Archipelago and the Limski Channel stand out. From Učka there is an unforgettable view of the land and the sea, there is a tunnel through the mountain. The Brijuni Archipelago consists of fourteen islands, their coastline is exceptionally intended and they are covered with evergreen vegetation. They have been inhabited since Roman times, so sun yourself on a Istrian City Break.

Kvarner Bay lies on the eastern side of the Učka mountain and travelling from Pula to Rijeka, two more great city breaks, along the coast there is a great view of Učka rising above the town of Rijeka and the small towns of the Opatija Riviera. The Vinodol valley stretches along the northeastern part of the Kvarner coast and the southeastern side of the bay is defined by Zavratnica cove, which cuts into the Velebit mountain. Kvarner is a good example of dramatic diversity of climate and landscape within a small area, so typical of Croatia: only twenty kilometres from the coast, there are excellent ski slopes on Platak.
Along the eastern edges of Velebit flow rivers Zrmanja and its tributary Krupa. In the hinterland of the town of Biograd lies Vransko Lake, the biggest lake in Croatia, its northwestern edge is an ornithological preserve. A long time ago a fort of the Knights Templar stood on its shore, this is a very interesting area for a historical city break.

Try a City Break in Croatia, you will not be disappointed.
